This course is designed for those who wish to work with participants in a gym setting. It provides evidence of an individual's competence in teaching exercise and fitness. It has been developed to reflect modern practices in teaching exercise and fitness. The course is nationally recognised and gives entry onto the Register of Exercise Professionals.

Course Content: 

To achieve the full award, candidates must complete the following five units:

  • Dealing with accidents and emergencies
  • Evaluating coaching sessions and develop personal coaching practice
  • Supporting participants in developing and maintaining fitness
  • Planning and preparing a gym-based exercise session
  • Instructing a gym-based exercise session

 

This qualification aims to assess the competence of those coaching or leading exercise and fitness activities, or have begun working as a fitness instructor in a fitness centre. Delivered over four days with the assessment carried out 6 weeks after course delivery to enable candidates the appropriate time to generate part of the required evidence for certification. On completion of the course you will be capable of planning, delivering and evaluating sessions in the context of Exercise and Fitness.
 
To successfully complete this course a moderate standard of literacy and numeracy is essential.
 
 
Duration: 

Short Course - intensive delivery over four days plus one day for assessment (six weeks after).

Certification: 

On successful completion candidates will receive a SQA Certificate
